Challenge.

The Canvas LMS only allows assignments to be completed in autonomous assignment pages, often requiring an awkward break in learning sequences

Objective.

Develop tech to provide in-the-moment assignment submission on a content page, thereby allowing multiple content-to-assignment engagement loops per page

Challenge.

Passive participation in learning does not offer room for autonomous learning, and after a certain period students are likely to lose interest. As a result, learning retention is decreased.

Objective.

Use instructional strategies and content analysis to identify opportunities for student engagement with content through interactive learning objects such as flashcards, interactive drag-and-drop diagrams, and other self-check exercises.

Challenge.

Online students can be isolated and not feel part of the Auburn Family. The students who have never before taken an online class must learn to navigate the online experience. Further, online learning design must intentionally create opportunities for interaction between peers, support staff and faculty.

Objective.

Connect students with Auburn and introduce them to the Auburn culture, traditions and values. Additionally, ensure students understand their program’s layout, their expectations and the resources at their disposal to support them throughout the program.

Challenge.

Students tend to compartmentalize knowledge and are typically not able to find linkages and relationships between two different subjects. Additionally, if there is time gap between two sequence courses, students are not able to retain the knowledge and require a refresher before they can be successful in the follow-on course.

Objective.

Provide opportunities for students to minimize learning gaps and find connections between similar topics in different subjects.

Challenge.

Non-academic units across campus have a need to develop engaging training material to ensure Auburn faculty, staff, and students have access to high-quality professional development.

Objective.

Lend learning design expertise to campus units to develop more engaging professional development content. Create opportunities for faculty to engage with creative learning experiences that inspire them to revisit their own teaching.

Challenge.

Group projects can provide invaluable benefit to an online course, but they also present a challenge, particularly when there is no platform available for an effective completion of the group project.

Objective.

To deliver an unparalleled online group work experience that accomplishes the original learning objectives

Challenge.

Research requires information literacy and library skills to work effectively. Auburn Libraries had a series of learning tutorials needing to be created or improved upon

Objective.

Create engaging Library tutorials that can be delivered through multiple platforms.

Challenge.

A faculty member who adopted online learning early wanted to rejuvenate their course.

Objective.

Perform content analysis on hours of video to develop a more engaging, less passive course that incorporates service learning

Challenge.

AU Plasma team was part of the EPSCoR grant awardees and tasked with designing and delivering a Spectral Diagnostics course to reach a statewide audience.

Objective.

Develop a course for plasma diagnostics that can be delivered to students at other institutions across the State of Alabama and professionals in the field across the globe, and meet NSF grant reporting timelines and guidelines.
